Creating space for comfortable living is one of our passions – and even if we say so ourselves – we’re particularly good at it.
So often and especially in older properties, the space may be divided between smaller rooms, limiting their use and restricting the flow of the home. Sometimes it just needs someone to see beyond the existing layout and envisage how the space could be better used.
It’s amazing how reshaping the available space can transform a house into a home – a place to relax and share with family and friends.
We’ve added a few examples below to show you what we mean.
Derelict Space BeforeFor example, take this 300 year old barn. As you’ll see it was derelict and falling into greater disrepair each year. Could this be the centrepiece of a fabulous new home?
We certainly thought so.
Kitchen-Diner AfterUnrecognisble isn’t it? Rebuilt to modern, insulated standards, we created a large kitchen-diner with galleried family room and office above.
It’s a fabulous family space.
Floorplan Before. In this example we started with an intact building. The only issues were that 1980’s kitchen and the adjoining family room were cold and gloomy. The seperate utilty room was overly large and all were accessed via a narrow dark hallway.
Floor plan After. To create a more useable space we combined the hallway, kitchen & family room by demolishing 2 walls. The kitchen was further enlarged by reducing the ultily room size. Underfloor heating added warmth to all areas.
Appearance BeforeAs you can see, the space was limited and the smoked glass partition limited the light.
Appearance After. The space is now bright and airy and is a finalist in the Northern Design Awards.
